The annual conference of SDHS draws dance scholars and scholars in related fields from around the world. Typically meeting in June on a university campus, SDHS members gather to share information and ideas, to attend performances, and to engage one another on the state of the field. In addition to formal papers presenting current research, lecture-demonstrations, and roundtable discussions of special topics, the society’s eight working groups hold informal meetings to discuss their own special interests. Papers are published in the conference proceedings at the discretion of the authors. Graduate students are encouraged to attend and to apply for the Selma Jeanne Cohen Award for outstanding papers, as well as for travel funds through the Graduate Student Travel Grant. One highlight of the conference is the awards ceremony, where recipients of the de la Torre Bueno Prize® and the Gertrude Lippincott Award are honored along with the graduate student winners.
